Branded milk makes ground on supermarket labels

Written on the 14th of February 2013 by ABC

The dairy industry is forecasting a positive outlook for milk prices despite the farmgate price being down eight per cent on this time last year.

Dairy Australia's latest outlook report also shows sales of branded milk have risen 15 per cent against supermarket labels.

Dairy Australia's Norman Repacholi says at this stage it's hard to say why branded milk sales have recovered.

"I think a lot of it comes down to the level of promotion that's taking place and also some of the differentiation around maybe permeate free [milk]."

"Maybe that's making a difference but it's still a bit hard to tell."
