Fitsafe Technologies has developed and internationally patented an innovative process to safely retrofit additional entries into operating live underground storage tanks that contain flammable and combustible liquids.

The Fitsafe method for installing entry fittings to underground petrol and diesel tanks is the safest and most cost effective process with very little site interruption and no tank or site downtime. There is also no requirement for tank de-commissioning, purging, cleaning or de-gassing during the installation of the tank entry fitting.

The Fitsafe Retrofit method has become the preferred method of the Retail Petroleum Industry in Australia and New Zealand with over 1000 applications safely completed.

Retrofit programs and maintenance works requiring additional tank entries such as Automated Tank Gauging (ATG), Overfill Prevention Devices, Tank Cleaning and Inspection Ports, Stage I & Stage II Vapour Recovery, Fill and Dip Points can now be installed without having to consider the restricting factor of finding an entry point or site closures and excessive regret costs.

The Fitsafe Retrofit method provides a safe and cost effective answer for those important programs that have been put on-hold because existing operational Underground Storage Tanks (UST’s) having no suitable or spare entries.

Fitsafe Technologies was established in mid 2006 with the single goal of developing a safer, more reliable and cost effective process that would allow an on mass method of retro-fitting additional entries into existing, in-service, buried underground petroleum storage tanks

By December of 2006, the Fitsafe, Retrofit Fitting and Broaching processes had been successfully developed, tested and proven.

In January 2007 Fitsafe Technologies gained approvals for beta testing of the system in Australia after a successful Australian pattern application and legal approval. In mid 2007 a World-Wide Patent Application was approved for the Broaching Process, Technology and application.

The first commercial applications were undertaken shortly thereafter, with the result that by late 2007 all the major Australian Petroleum Companies had reviewed and approved the process for retro-fitting additional entries to their existing underground storage tanks for their installations in Australia.

By early 2008 more than 1000 additional entries have been installed across the width and breadth of Australia safely with a minimum of fuss and with no storage tank down time, significantly reducing the burden cost of major works on site.

A variety of fuel storage tank retrofit applications have been completed, which include retro-fitting Automated Tank Gauging (ATG), Stage 1 and Stage 2 Vapour Recovery (VR) and Fill and Dip re-works being successfully installed safely and without major civil works and disruption to sites utilising the Fitsafe Tank Retrofitting Process.

The unprecedented success in Australia has resulted in world wide approval of the process from petroleum companies global engineering organisations.
